The York Test laboratory specialises in rigorous analytical testing. The test for food-specific IgG antibodies in blood samples. The presence of food-specific IgG antibodies indicates that a reaction has occurred to that particular food and the results from the test are used to formulate an elimination diet.

We understand that diet may be a contributing factor to your health and wellbeing and we are a firm believer in 'you are what you eat'.  By taking an intolerance test, you can better deal with problems like fatigue, anxiety, bloating, stubborn weight/water retention and general poor skin conditions.  On average people who suffer from food intolerances usually have between 4 and 8 trigger foods.

Symptoms of food intolerance can take up to 72 hours to appear after eating the trigger food or group of foods.  Many people suffer for years, being unable to enjoy a normal work and home life, unable to lose weight and unable to lead a healthy and energetic lifestyle.  Many don’t know that there are easy steps to take to resolve their condition.

Food intolerance affects around 45% of our population in the UK and makes achieving client goals very difficult as a result of insufficient fuel utilisation and inflammatory processes to overcome larger fragments passing into the blood stream through a ‘leaky gut’. Taking an intolerance test is a fast method of pin pointing the foods to avoid in an attempt to maximise adaptations to becoming the best version of yourself, instead of wasting time progressing through elimination diets!

An independent Customer Survey was conducted by The University of York (2007) and involved 5,286 customers who eliminated their trigger foods after taking a test.

How do York Test Food Intolerance Tests Work?

Two 30 minute appointments are made (included in price), one 10 days after the other, one to explain the test and take a blood sample using a simple finger prick and the other to discuss your results.

A few drops of blood are taken using a simple finger prick blood collection wick system.  Because the finger prick system is so easy to use, the sample can be taken anywhere – at our clinic, in your home etc.

The sample is then posted back to the York Test laboratory (in a pre-paid envelope), tested and analysed for IgG antibody reactions to more than a number of food and drink ingredients.  This can take up to 10 working days.

We ask you to schedule a second appointment (included in price) to discuss your results in detail and recommended dietary and nutritional changes - a fast track to an elimination diet that optimises health and wellbeing.

Blood samples are handled and tested only by trained, qualified laboratory scientists at York Test Laboratories directed by a board of medical and clinical directors.  Their products comply with strict EC directives and meet the highest industry guidelines.

Can an intolerance test be done on children?

The youngest is 2 years old.

          Common Symptoms of Food Intolerance

          • Digestive issues
          • Headaches
          • Fatigue
          • Skin problems
          • Muscle and joint pain
          • Weight management difficulties

Note: IgG-related intolerances can cause delayed reactions, sometimes up to 72 hours after consumption.

          Understanding Test Results

          • Green – Normal Reactivity:
IgG antibody levels are within the normal range. These foods can be consumed as usual.
          • Orange – Borderline Reactivity:
IgG levels are borderline. Reducing these foods may be beneficial.
          • Red – High Reactivity:
Elevated IgG levels. A 12-week elimination period is often recommended.

          Important Considerations Before Testing

          • If a client has been avoiding certain foods for more than six weeks, their IgG levels for those items may not register in the results.
          • If they are avoiding foods due to known reactions, we do not recommend reintroducing them solely for testing purposes.
          • However, if they would like those foods to be included in the test, they would need to consume them 2–3 times per week for six weeks prior to testing.

Note: York Test is a food intolerance test and NOT an allergy test. If your client suffers classical allergic (IgE) reactions to any of these foods then they MUST NOT eat them. The test will not identify all the different types of food intolerance, for example it will not diagnose lactose intolerance or coeliac disease.
