Food Intolerance Testing (York Test)

Food intolerance is a condition with a range of symptoms including gut symptoms, bloating, migraines, low mood, fatigue and skin problems. Lorisian food intolerance testing could identify your food intolerances and fast track an elimination diet to optimise your health and wellbeing.

As an approved Lorisian provider, we offer our clients Europe’s most leading food intolerance testing. Lorisian specialises in unique food intolerance tests and has been providing diagnostic testing alongside their parent company (http://www.yorktest.com/) since 1982.

We offer the following food intolerance tests at Airmid Therapies:

  • Lorisian Gold Analyses your IgG antibody reaction to 200+ food ingredients
  • Lorisian Homocysteine predictor of potential health problems

The Lorisian laboratory specialises in rigorous analytical testing. The test for food-specific IgG antibodies in blood samples. The presence of food-specific IgG antibodies indicates that a reaction has occurred to that particular food and the results from the test are used to formulate an elimination diet.

We understand that diet may be a contributing factor to your health and wellbeing and we are a firm believer in 'you are what you eat'.  By taking an intolerance test, you can better deal with problems like fatigue, anxiety, bloating, stubborn weight/water retention and general poor skin conditions.  On average people who suffer from food intolerances usually have between 4 and 8 trigger foods.

Symptoms of food intolerance can take up to 72 hours to appear after eating the trigger food or group of foods.  Many people suffer for years, being unable to enjoy a normal work and home life, unable to lose weight and unable to lead a healthy and energetic lifestyle.  Many don’t know that there are easy steps to take to resolve their condition.

Food intolerance affects around 45% of our population in the UK and makes achieving client goals very difficult as a result of insufficient fuel utilisation and inflammatory processes to overcome larger fragments passing into the blood stream through a ‘leaky gut’. Taking an intolerance test is a fast method of pin pointing the foods to avoid in an attempt to maximise adaptations to becoming the best version of yourself, instead of wasting time progressing through elimination diets!

An independent Customer Survey was conducted by The University of York (2007) and involved 5,286 customers who eliminated their trigger foods after taking a test.

The results were then divided into groups and the findings are summarised here:

How do Lorisian Food Intolerance Tests Work?

Two 30 minute appointments are made (included in price), one 10 days after the other, one to explain the test and take a blood sample using a simple finger prick and the other to discuss your results.

A few drops of blood are taken using a simple finger prick blood collection wick system.  Because the finger prick system is so easy to use, the sample can be taken anywhere – at our clinic, in your home etc.

The sample is then posted back to the Lorisian laboratory (in a pre-paid envelope), tested and analysed for IgG antibody reactions to more than a number of food and drink ingredients.  This can take up to 10 working days.

We ask you to schedule a second appointment (included in price) to discuss your results in detail and recommended dietary and nutritional changes - a fast track to an elimination diet that optimises health and wellbeing.

Blood samples are handled and tested only by trained, qualified laboratory scientists at Lorisian Laboratories directed by a board of medical and clinical directors.  Their products comply with strict EC directives and meet the highest industry guidelines.

Can an intolerance test be done on children?

The youngest is 2 years old, any younger we would need permission from a GP.

Lorisian Homocysteine Test

The importance of homocysteine as a marker for health and wellbeing is becoming clearer. There are an increasing number of studies that show homocysteine to be a predictor of potential health problems. Raised blood homocysteine concentrations can both predict the development of heart disease and strokes; in older people even better than any usual measure of risk including cholesterol, blood pressure or smoking. Women with high homocysteine levels find it harder to conceive and are at risk from repeated early miscarriage. Raised levels of homocysteine have also been implicated in migraine and linked to Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, declining memory, poor concentration and judgement and lowered mood.

The good news is raised homocysteine levels can usually be brought back to normal levels by simple dietary changes and / or supplementation with B vitamins. However, everyone is unique and different factors, including genetics, make it virtually impossible to determine an individuals’ nutritional requirements without assessing levels of homocysteine first, and then monitoring dietary changes to ensure that acceptable homocysteine levels are reached.

The Lorisian Homocysteine test is a quick and easy home-to-laboratory test that delivers reliable laboratory test results within just 10 days.

These consultations and tests can be carried out either in-person or online/virtual appointments (the testing kit can be posted out to you).

Note: Lorisian is a food intolerance test and NOT an allergy test. If your client suffers classical allergic (IgE) reactions to any of these foods then they MUST NOT eat them. The test will not identify all the different types of food intolerance, for example it will not diagnose lactose intolerance or coeliac disease.

Note: Homocysteine measurement does not give a definitive diagnosis of increased risk of these conditions and any symptoms or concerns must be checked out by a Medical Professional before carrying out the test.
