Deep Tissue Cupping Massage

A deep tissue cupping massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia.  The cups are used along with massage to warm the muscles, relieve oedema and pain. It also boosts circulation and the immune system.

Deep Tissue Cupping Massage

Deep tissue cupping massage is a specific massage, using cups to 'create space' between the surface of the body and deep tissue layers to allow blood, fluids and Qi to flow freely. Used along with body massage, cupping is used to activate the immune and lymphatic systems.

When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually trigger points (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments.  These trigger points can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation.  Deep tissue cupping massage works by physically breaking down these points to relieve pain, restore normal movement and increase circulation. To do this, the massage therapist often uses the cups in a static state over the muscles. Underlying congestion of the organs is cleared.

Negative pressure is produced by the suction of the cups and as toxins are drawn to the surface and dispersed the immune system is stimulated into action.  The lymphatic and immune activity is increased and supported through the action and effects of cupping. Fullness, congestion and stagnation of the tissues is resolved as fresh blood and fluids are brought to the site of the cups.

What is involved in a deep tissue cupping massage treatment?

A consultation is required before/at your first treatment; this ensures deep tissue cupping massage is right for you. Typically, a deep tissue cupping massage is concentrated on specific painful areas.  The massage therapist uses the cups in a flowing free flowing movement to warm the muscles up and when they come across an area of tension, the cups can be placed static on that area.

The therapist will also use their thumbs, fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms during the deep tissue cupping massage.  Unlike a relaxing massage, during a deep tissue cupping massage the therapist requires feedback from the client.  You will be asked if the pressure/suction is ok.

At certain points during the massage, some people may find there is usually some discomfort.  It is important to tell the massage therapist when things hurt and if any pain you experience is outside your comfort range.  There is usually some stiffness or pain after a deep tissue cupping massage, but it should subside within a day or so.

Some discolouring may show on the skin and this will subside within a few days to a week. Every treatment is tailored to the recipient's needs and towels are used to ensure your modesty. Oils are used to help nourish the skin and allow a smooth continuous flowing movement.
