Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD)

The Function of the Lymphatic System

The lymphatic system is a network of very small tubes (vessels) that drain lymph fluid from all over the body.  The primary function of the lymphatic system is to transport lymph, a fluid containing infection-fighting white blood cells, throughout the body. The lymphatic system primarily consists of lymphatic vessels, which are similar to the circulatory system's veins and capillaries.

The function of the lymphatic system interact with three other body systems: cardiovascular system, digestive system an immune system so it is vital our lymphatic system is in balance.  RLD aims to stimulate the function of the lymphatic system and drain excess lymph from the damaged area.

What is involved in a Lymph Drainage Reflexology (RLD) treatment?

A consultation is required at the start of your first treatment; this ensures RLD is right for you.  The recipient lies on a couch or in a reclining chair. As it's just the feet that are worked on, you remain fully clothed at all times, apart from removing your socks and shoes. The therapist applies pressure to the feet using specific thumb, finger and hand techniques. A Reflexology session lasts approximately 1 hour, however, if the client would prefer to have measurments taken before and after their session this can add at least 15mins onto the session at an additional charge.

What are the benefits of RLD?

As with general Reflexology, RLD can help many aliments including the sample list below:

  • Reflexology reduces stress, tension, anxiety and relaxes the whole person
  • Removes congestion in energy pathways and allows the energy to flow more freely, thus helping to bring about homeostasis.
  • Improves blood and lymph circulation
  • Helps normalise organ and gland function
  • Stimulates the body to throw off toxic matter
  • Revitalizes the body energy
  • It is preventative health care
  • Stimulates creativity and productivity
  • Improves mental alertness and attention span
  • A general sense of health and well-being
  • A Feeling of deep relaxation
  • Improves mood and sleep

RLD is for anyone with lymph conditions such as secondary lymphedema, e.g. a swelling in the arm after breast cancer.  Early research suggests that RLD may be useful with other conditions including fibromyalgia, CFS/ME, allergies, rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory auto-immune disorders (e.g.IBS), pregnancy and premenstrual fluid retention.  For more information view this video

Tara - Newry

"I was 26+ weeks pregnant  and sprained my ankle.  I received RLD a few days after and the swelling went down that evening (when I would normally have 'fat ankles' anyway).  The pain had also reduced and it has been improving every since.  "

Kathy - Newry

"I had fallen and hurt my knee over 5 months ago.  My knee was pain and swollen and seemed to be getting worse.  I received 4 weekly treatments of RLD and the difference was amazing.  The swelling has reduced, the pain has lessened and I am able to walk much better - delighted!"
